Instructor Guidelines

NTA always welcomes its members to instruct a class

Instructor Guidelines:

NTA teachers will determine the market price for their classes. This price includes the cost of samples, possible teacher fee (if necessary) and a percentage for NTA. The price you set will be the advertised per student price of your class. NTA will retain 30% of the published per student class price and the balance will be paid to the teacher in on payment within 30 days after classes.

It is the Instructor's responsibility to:
  • Prepare a written description of the class along with the fee that each student will be charged. (Including whether or not the class is open to non-NTA members and what the surcharge for non-NTA members is).
  • Estimate cost of supplies so that class fees cover all your expenses.
  • List whether or not the class size is limited and if so, to how many.
  • List all the supplies necessary for each student to bring.
  • A telephone number that the Instructor can be reached in case of cancellation by students.
  • Submit all above information to the Education Chairperson two full weeks before the date of the class.

Class Policies:

  • Registration for a class will be available online. If a student is unable to register online, they are instructed to call the Education Chairperson before the cutoff date to sign up.
  • Students have until Thursday before the class* to register for the class.
  • Class payment will be made at the time of class.
  • Students will have until noon the Friday before the class* to cancel by email, or if they do not have Internet access, they will telephone directly to the instructor.
  • Any requests to take a class after the Thursday cutoff date will be deferred to the teacher. The teacher will be given the option to allow or disallow entry into the class after the cutoff date.
  • It is advised that the instructor verifies the number of students and retrieves all phone messages by noon on Friday before purchasing and preparing class materials.

* In some cases, registration and cancellation dates may be altered to accommodate the instructor (for instance, ordering stencils or product, or having an out-of-town instructor). If this is necessary, the instructor needs to inform the Education Chairperson when arranging the class.

Responsibilities of Teachers' Assistants:

As an on-site assistant, you have the choice to audit the class or take the class.
AUDIT = Class is free, however you will not create a board, nor will you receive supplies.
TAKE THE CLASS = Pay full price, however you may not be able to finish your work the night of the class. You must pay according to the deadlines for all members.
  1. Call the teacher two weeks prior to class and verbally verify your availability to assist. Also, notify Education Chair of your availability and choice of "taking" or "auditing" the class.
  2. Help the teacher haul in supplies.
  3. Carry in NTA supplies from office.
  4. Prepare work stations for the students (including but not limited to arranging tables, pushing the chairs away to the meeting area, distributing supplies at each work station, and in some cases moving easels in). Complete by 6:30 p.m.
  5. Converse with the teacher before class to find out how they can help during the class.
  6. During the class, assist the teacher when needed. This will involve temporarily breaking away from your own work. At 8:45 p.m., start cleaning up and packing.
  7. Lead the group in rearranging the tables to their original positions.
  8. Return NTA supplies to the office and help the teacher haul supplies back to vehicle.
